The Xbox One is nearly among us. This brand new console may be the size of a VCR but it packs a punch. The new Xbox can run many new capabilities and processes, from Skype, to contacting friends and family, to Youtube capability to watch your cat videos. On top of this, there are many games and entertainment tools designed especially for this Xbox and no other console from the previous series. Although this seems too good to be true, it is a bit pricey, and has a few rumors that are extremely dark and scary to think about.
According to one rumor, the console comes with a device called the “Kinect.” The Kinect is basically a camera that lets you use your body instead of a controller, and since it has the ability to record audio and video, many thoughts have arisen. Supposedly, Microsoft implanted something in these devices which records what it hears and captures visually; for example, if you set up the Kinect in your living room, Microsoft (and, horror of horrors, the nation’s national security services) can see and hear everything that happens in the room and nearby rooms, though it appears to be turned off. Of course Microsoft denies these speculations, but the truth is unknown for sure, and many protest its manufacturing, and refuse to purchase it with their system. Personally I doubt I’ll get the new system, not only because of the purported spying issues but its just a repeat of the other consoles.
But hey, if you’re a fan of Microsoft and the Xbox series, then by all means go nuts!
