NJROTC: not just spiffy uniforms

Perhaps you’ve seen them cruising the halls of CHS with their military precision. You may have wondered, “who are those students in their sharp khaki uniforms and starched white caps?

NJROTC (Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps) is a class at Colton high school. Led by Sgt. Dorriga, NJROTC includes the drill team that does unarmed and practice basic exhibition drills. The person in charge of that is Chief Samron; she is team leader. Students in NJROTC wear their spiffy uniforms every Wednesday. They also have academics every Monday and Tuesday.

Besides naval training, the class takes field trips to see naval warships and US Marine bases throughout the year. There are competitions they have to be in with other schools. They do physical testd to get ribbons. There is physical training (called P.T) every Friday. There are also steady promotions every semester to allow students to proceed up in rank. Everyone in the program knows each other by last names. Everyone gets treated with respect and when someone is in need the others in the program have a reputation of helping them to get them out of trouble.

Our Goal

Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
